GSC's Removals tool usually hides a URL from search results quickly. It is the fastest method Google offers. The trap is the time limit: removal lasts 6 months, no more. If those six months pass without a noindex, a 410, or the file genuinely gone from the server, the URL slides back into the index on its own.
The work runs on two tracks at once. The Removal Request goes into GSC for immediate disappearance from search. In parallel, the root cause gets fixed in code — 410 Gone on the server if the data is permanently deleted, or noindex on the page if it still exists but should not show up. With both tracks done, the URL stays gone past month six in most cases.
Through the six months the URL gets a regular daily-to-weekly check: site: search, URL Inspection, and external archives like Wayback and archive.today. Any attempt to resurface triggers a fresh Removal Request inside 24 hours and a reinforced 410 in code.

6-month removal or permanent?
GSC's Removals tool itself removes for 6 months only — that is the tool, not a choice. For permanent removal you need a 410 Gone on the server (if the data is deleted) or noindex on the page (if the data exists but should not appear in search). I do both in parallel so the URL does not return.
What if the content is also in another archive?
GSC's Removals tool handles only Google's index — not the Wayback Machine, archive.today, or other search engines' caches. For external archives you need to contact each service directly with a removal request. During the 6 months I check those archives and report so you can act.
Can the Search Console Removals tool remove information about me on other sites?
No. The Removals tool in Search Console is for site owners and temporarily hides URLs from your own site only. Information about you on other sites goes through other routes: a request under Google's personal information removal policy (for example contact details, ID numbers or financial details), a legal removal request through Google's Legal Help Center, or, for people with a connection to the EU, EEA or UK, a right to be forgotten request, which applies only to European versions of Search. Legal requests are best handled with a lawyer.
