Direct vs Discovery searches — what is the difference?
Direct searches = people who searched for your business name directly (they already know you). Discovery searches = people who searched a category or service and found you (new customers). Discovery is the more important metric for growth.
Does GBP Insights connect to GA4?
The report itself does not, but I cross-reference manually — take website clicks from GBP and check in GA4 what happened after the click (time on site, conversion, destination). That gives the full picture.
How far back is data available?
GBP Performance only shows 6 months in the UI. So I save every month's data in a separate sheet from month one — meaning you have years of history, not half a year.
