GSC Insights report + AI search performance tracking
The Insights report in GSC is the one nobody opens — and exactly where the interesting data sits: AI Overviews citations, Discover performance, content trends by period. Google also recently added a Search Appearance filter that includes "AI Overviews". I track monthly, analyze, and integrate with GEO/AEO reporting. ₪420/month.
Why the Insights report is essential as Google shifts to AI Search
- ✓ Google added an "AI Overviews" filter to the Performance report in 2024 — the only official number on AI-search visibility
- ✓ The Insights report shows trending content rising and falling that does not show in the regular Performance report — the basis for a monthly content plan
- ✓ Discover performance is a major traffic source most site owners ignore — significant potential sits there
- ✓ Integrating GSC data with GEO/AEO tools (ChatGPT/Perplexity citations) gives the full picture of AI search visibility
The Insights report in GSC, tucked under Performance, surfaces three groups of data. Top performing content (the pages pulling the most traffic), Trending content (pages with notable rise or fall in the last 28 days), and Top queries by impressions and clicks. The report is free, updates daily, and almost nobody opens it because it sits behind Search results → Insights.
Google added a Search Appearance filter to the Performance report in 2024, with an AI Overviews option. That filter is the only official number on how often your site appeared as a citation inside an AI Overview. No third-party estimate; the number comes from Google.
Monthly tracking covers four moves: export the Insights report, filter Performance by AI Overviews appearance, compare against the prior month, identify the trends rising and falling. The output combines with external GEO/AEO tools (Perplexity citations, ChatGPT mentions) into a single picture of AI search visibility, and that picture drives specific content actions instead of generic recommendations.
AI Overviews citations tracking
Export AI Overviews appearance data from GSC, monthly comparison, list of every page and query that earned a citation — including relative CTR for citations.
Discover impressions analysis
Full Discover performance report — dominant queries, top performing pages, peak hours. Most sites do not know they have meaningful Discover traffic.
Content recommendations by trends
Identify 5-10 rising topics from the Insights report, with recommendations for new content or upgrades to existing content that can catch the wave.
GEO/AEO integration
Cross-reference with Perplexity, ChatGPT, and other tools for a complete picture of AI visibility — not just Google AI Overviews.

FAQ
Is the AI Overviews data in GSC reliable?
It is the only data Google releases directly, so by definition it is the source of truth. But there are limits — Google does not break out which AI Overview specifically cited you, only that you appeared. Combined with external tools you get the full picture: GSC says "you appeared in an AI Overview", Perplexity or ChatGPT trackers say "and here is exactly which prompt and what you were cited for".
Does Discover still matter in 2026?
Yes, and more than most realize. Discover is the Google feed in Chrome mobile and the Google app, and for the right content it can produce more traffic than regular Search. The catch is that traffic is volatile — one viral post can flood you for a week, then quiet. The Insights report shows you which content style works on Discover for your audience.
How is this different from the regular monitoring service?
Regular monitoring (gsc-monitoring) covers ongoing Performance, Coverage, and basic issue detection. This service adds the Insights report, the AI Overviews filter, the Discover deep-dive, and external GEO/AEO tool integration. It is the AI-search layer on top of regular SEO monitoring, designed for sites that already have ongoing SEO and want to layer AI visibility on top.
